In this video, I discuss tactical deployment exercises for law enforcement to help prevent active shooter situations, as well as learn how to end them quickly and safely.

In light of the recent assassination attempt on Presidential Candidate Donald Trump, and recent U.S. history in which active shooter incidences have occurred with more frequency in public places, I intend to implement a tactical deployment exercise program as a public safety response to the potentiality of an active shooter incidence or a similar public safety crisis where lives are at a grave risk.

This is not intended as a response to undermine constitutional provisions that I have pledged to uphold and defend, but readiness and deployment exercises for those charged with defending public safety.

The primary venues for the exercises that I have identified include churches, schools, assisted living facilities, government buildings, entertainment venues, and shopping districts.  While all venues are of priority importance, I single out the schools, both public and private.  I recognize the significant vulnerability of the children in attendance and under my watch as Sheriff, will not accept the loss of a child from violent circumstances.

If elected Jackson County Sheriff, I will immediately draft plans for tactical deployment exercises, complete with participating agencies and exercise scenarios.  Inclusion of other Jackson County law enforcement agencies, or others outside Jackson County, would be contingent on mutual department agreement and planning contributions from agency administrators.

A success scale will be established and evaluations will be generated for each deployment exercise and be posted for public review.  I will also consider public viewing of the exercises.

Let us pray the necessity for a crisis tactical deployment never arises in Jackson County or again in Michigan.
